Casio’s new G-SHOCK watch combines rugged style with smart features music fans will love

In the world of wearable technology, it seems like everyday a new product enters the market space bent on changing the way you interact with with your smart devices. Casio is taking a different approach with a focus on getting key features right versus delivering a marginal product packed with needless bells and whistles.

Today, Casio introduced the G-SHOCK GBA-400, its newest Bluetooth-enabled watch that brings with it some smart functionality that is sure to be a hit with music lovers…

With its tough build and water resistance of 20 ATM, the GBA-400 is ready to go anywhere you might take it. Capable of helping you manage your music, creating custom notifications for e-mail, calendar events and more. Perhaps most helpful, the ability to find your devices when you misplaced it under in the couch cushion for the 100th time.

The GBA-400 takes a different approach when it comes to interacting with your smart device, the physical rotary dial on the side of the watch is the preferred medium for changing your music, or silencing alerts. For the music geeks out there, perhaps one of the coolest features is the ability to leverage SoundHound via your smartphone. It identifies music and delivers the tile and artist information directly to the watch display.

On the smartphone side of the equation is Casio’s G-Shock app (iOS and Android), which helps manage Twitter, Facebook and calendar notifications. These alerts can be customized to your liking, from vibrations during a phone call to tones when a text message arrives.

You can pick up the new Casio G-SHOCK GBA-400 on September 19 from Casio for $223. The latest addition to the G-SHOCK line will be available in four colors: Black and Silver, Blue and Silver, Black and Gold, and Red and Silver. At this time, Casio has not announced availability in international markets. This watch joins the lineup of existing Casio Bluetooth-enabled watches.
