CES 2015 is now in full swing with a number of companies announcing new and interesting products. One of which is Roku, who has so far announced a series of new Roku TVs and deeper 4K Ultra HD content support across the board.
Not only is the company planning to support 4K for future Roku TV models, the company has also teamed up with online content powerhouse Netflix to offer 4K content on Roku’s streaming boxes/sticks in the future. As 4K TV prices plummet, both companies are looking to offer solid Ultra HD solutions for their customers, something Roku believes is instrumental in the overall adoption of higher resolution content.
Head below for more details on the new Roku TVs and future 4K support for the platform:
Outside of the 4K content on Roku’s platform via Netflix (coming soon), the company has a series of new Roku TVs on the way including a 4K reference design for OEM TV partners like TCL, Haier and others. While having already released HD Roku TVs earlier this year, TCL is signed on to be among the first companies to build 4K Roku TVs, according to today’s announcement.
Also announced today, TV manufacturer Insignia will soon be offering its new line of Roku TVs as well. It looks as though they will launch in the Spring as Best Buy exclusives when they do see the light of day. Just like previous designs from TCL, Insignia will be following Roku’s reference design to include all the usual fixings of Roku OS. There is no details on sizes and specific features available just yet.
Roku has also made friends with the folks at Haier who will be offering its own set of Roku TVs later this year. Expected by Q3, Haier’s upcoming Roku TV 4 Series Smart LED TVs will come in panels ranging from 32-inches all the way up to 65-inches, with HD options from 40-inches and up. You can also expect to see additional features on the larger models like a Sound Chamber “that produces enhanced sound quality, with superior dampening, improved mid-range response, cleaner and deeper bass, as well as overall richer sound texture.”
For those not familiar with Roku’s reference design on its specially branded TVs, they boast the company’s Roku OS and personalized home screen. Not only do users have access to more than 2,000 streaming channels and over 200,000 movies, TV shows and more, but with the unified home screen, all of your peripherals (including game consoles, cable boxes and Blu-ray players) sit right alongside your streaming options without the need to flip through input menus. You also get a easy to use Roku-specific remote, and all the iOS and Android connectivity found on the popular Roku streaming boxes.
