Revell’s latest miniature quadcopter drone claims to be the “world’s smallest” yet

Remote controlled drones have become more popular then ever, appearing just about everywhere including South Park and landing innocently on the front lawn of The White House. From high-end Parrot Drones in the $500+ range to more affordable and smaller options, today we have a new contender for the “world’s smallest” remote controlled flyer….

We previously covered 1.5 x 1.5-inch mini drones that come in around $24.99 including the KiiToys model, but this new Revell developed flyer shown off at the London Toys show claims to be even smaller. The currently unnamed drone is the successor to the company’s slightly larger $45 model and packs in a fairly impressive feature set for such a tiny package.

While not all details are known at this point, those who went hands on with the early version say there are onboard LEDs (4 of them) to avoid collisions and to help those in the area see the tiny insect-sized quadcopter in the air. It uses a 2.4GHz radio signal for control with about a 50 meter range, however the miniature drone won’t be going on long reconnaissance missions anytime soon with such a limited battery life.

With such a small footprint it seems somewhat understandable that the tiny drone will only support a fly time of about 5 minutes on a 30 minute charge.

Update (1/26 5:10pm): The below Cheerson drones, can be had for $14 at Banggood.com using code bgcx10.

Revell’s tiny drone is expected to start shipping on June of this year, but if you can’t wait that long to get your hands on a mini drone, there are a couple inexpensive options to get you started from KiiToys and Cheerson from under $20 Prime shipped on Amazon right now. If you’re willing to spend slightly more, the $35 Skyeye version will net you a little bit of a longer fly time.
