Wireless whole home audio is moving away from being labeled a new and expanding category to something that is refining itself as a necessary need for audio enthusiasts. We’ve seen new releases from Bang & Olufsen this year, as well as updates to Aether’s speaker, while SONOS continues to reign supreme.
This week, Samsung announced a new entry into the whole home audio competition with its Radiant360 R7 Wireless Speaker that offers a number of familiar features plus some new ones.
The R7 will integrate with Samsung’s line of SHAPE wireless speakers, connecting via the new 2.0 version of its multi-room App (iOS/Android). While it has many of the features we’ve seen from other manufacturers, such as the ability to play one song on multiple speakers from a variety of sources like TuneIn Radio or Amazon.
The defining characteristic of the R7 is its tall and omnidirectional design. It will broadcast audio in 360 degrees allowing for placement in any space, allegedly nullifying the need for a “sweet spot” to hear the best sound. Additionally, it will be able to connect to “select Samsung HDTVs and audio sources”. Its unique design makes it a product worth checking out if you’re in the market for a whole home audio solution.
Samsung’s R7 wil be available for purchase later this month direct from Samsung with a retail price of $499.99.
