After years of varying success with trying to bring DIY carbonated beverages to the home, SodaStream is now showing off a new product that it hopes will bring its brand into the mainstream. This electronic bartender marries carbonation and alcohol with a twist of internet connectivity…
The new SodaStream MIX is a blend of CO2 and the Internet of Things, enabling users to concoct drinks on an iPhone and have them created on the appliance. You’ll be able to create drinks on the MIX by sifting through a number of recipes on the touchscreen ranging from alcohol-based to juices, water and wine. Instead of being limited to soda, the MIX is capable of much more.
After selecting a drink on the display, a recipe will show how much of what ingredients is needed for the desired beverage. It’ll be up to the user to put those ingredients to the Sodastream bottle before attaching it to the machine. Simply press go and the built-in mixer will handle infusing the carbonation into the pre-selected ingredients, resulting in a “perfectly mixed” drink.
The built-in app enables users to load up recipes from other sources, or that have been created at home. Overall it looks to be a pretty slick design. Details on the release, pricing and availability of this product have yet to be made public. But if and when it does come to market, we’d guess that it’ll make a splash.
