Gamescom is well underway over in Europe and today Microsoft took the stage to detail new features and games for the Xbox One. After a huge showing at E3 a few months back, we were anxious to see what Microsoft would bring to the table. There were a few game announcements and new software/hardware features detailed, as well as a beautiful new limited edition console. We have the full details below on all of today’s news.
There were a number of notable software upgrades and details for the Xbox One today. We already knew that Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility was on its way and today it got an official November release date. Along with that, Xbox One users will also get an upgraded dashboard with Windows 10 overtures like Cortana at that time. Subscription-free DVR services with streaming capabilities to Windows 10 devices (lame) was announced for the fall.
Microsoft also announced some new hardware today, with the limited edition Halo 5: Guardians Xbox One console stealing the show, as well as a limited edition controller. This new 1TB console has a custom Halo-inspired design with a Spartan-themed SteelBook case, custom Xbox One controller and access to the Warzone REQ DLC. This console has a $499 price tag and is available for pre-order today with a October 20th release date. A FIFA 16 1TB Xbox One bundle was announced with 1TB of storage and added bonuses including a one-year subscription to EA Access. Xbox One is getting a dedicated chat keyboard, which hardcore gamers have been clamoring for since the console’s release.
We also received a few more details on upcoming releases, starting with Rare Replay, which is available today for download. Other announcements included Just Cause 3 which includes the previous generation game with backward compatibility and a peek at Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege which will include older Xbox 360 titles with purchase. Finally, Microsoft teased Halo Wars 2, which will arrive in 2016 and is being developed by the Creative Assembly team.
