Bang & Olufsen brings it all together with new whole home audio capabilities for existing products

Seems like every consumer speaker company is offering a whole home audio solution these days. From SONOS to LG and Hitachi, these systems are becoming the industry standard to fill every room with sound.

Today, Bang & Olufsen is revealing their own plans for connected multi-room speakers. We first caught wind of this back in January at CES when B&O released the BeoSound Moment. Now its all coming together in a simple – yet pricey – customizable package.

The whole system centers around that BeoSound Moment, which controls song selection and playback throughout your home. This remote control of sorts offers access to all of your music and devices in a dual-factor interface. On one side is the simplistic wooden veneer that offers a simple dial for adjusting the genre and volume of your music. The flip side reveals a more standard display with access to playlists, radio, artist, album listings and more. Of course, the BeoSound Moment is visually very attractive, but it comes with a $2,795 list price and that is before you’ve purchased any speakers.

Where Bang & Olufsen shines is its ability to pair much of its existing product line together including the BeoPlay A9, BeoSound Essense, BeoVision 11 and BeoVision Avant. All of which can be grouped and controlled via the Moment or the BeoMusic App. As expected, each speaker can be individually controlled or grouped depending on your needs. Users will be able to pull music from selected sources, B&O is integrating Deezer’s service deep into the software but other internet radios and even physical audio sources like CDs can be played throughout the system.

Consumers aren’t likely to jump into this system head-on, the financial investment is too great for most. It is a good move on B&O’s part to upgrade their products with whole home audio capabilties, especially for those that are already deeply engrained in the ecosystem. SONOS and LG continue to offer solid product lines for those looking to enhance their home audio experience. The entry price for a whole home system from those retailers is a significantly smaller investment in comparison to B&O and is the route we’d recommend at this point.
