Solenica’s solar-powered Lucy lamp shines light into the dark spaces in your home

It’s getting harder to reinvent the lamp. It seems we have smart functionality and LED everywhere these days. But a new option from from a small company called Solenica is producing a pretty cool option that takes the power of the sun to any room in your home.

Meet Lucy.

Lucy is a bulbous shaped lamp that sits upon a small stand in your home. At the core, it’s a mirror and smart device. All together, it’s a product that is solar powered and follows the path of the sun throughout the day to sling natural lighting into your home. Its Italian design is modern and would serve as an intriguing conversation piece in addition to providing electricity-free lightning.

So how does Lucy work? It all starts with positioning your lamp in a location that has a view of the sun. From there, you must tell Lucy which space you’d like to fill with light. Throughout the day it charges itself as it follows the sun, the algorithm positions photosensors in-line with the sun. That energy is then harnessed to power Lucy and also forward up to 7,000 lumens of lighting on to the desired location. It is designed for indoor or outdoor use. The primary example that Solenica uses is to leverage the power of Lucy to light-up windowless spaces. This would be particularly helpful in apartments or office buildings that don’t receive natural lighting throughout the day. Of course, the natural benefits of the sunlight are added bonus of this product.

There is essentially zero installation, the light just has to be in a location with a view of the sun. Lucy is available for pre-order today for $199, it will then jump to $300 when it goes to retail.
