Quick Review: The Conway Electric Extō Dual-USB is the envy of all power strips

So here’s the story: we recently featured a pretty sweet lighting company out of the northwest called A-Lamp Design. As I was putting together the article, I became entranced by the red power cords that Erol Chandler was using for his products. He tells me that a company called Conway Electric, also on the west coast, is cranking out these power supplies that put your average cord to shame.

Turns out, Conway Electric is doing all that and more. As one of the only UL Listed companies in North America (a very costly certification), Kevin Faul and his crew are making the type of power supply everyone wishes that they had under their desk. So he sends over Conway’s 12-foot Extō Dual-USB power source in mint with a red cord and I fell in love.

In love with a power supply? Yeah, you read that right. Aside from the playful mint aluminum housing and red cotton cord, the technical specifications behind this beauty are top-notch across the board. It has two three-prong tamperproof 120V outlets and dual-USB ports as well. Sure there are other options with similar setups but it’s the power behind Conway’s Extō that really makes it stand out.

The Extō can pump out 3.6amps across both ports, dividing the power to ensure your device gets the fastest charge possible. It also has smart chip technology, which is a must have to quickly and safely identify the proper amps that your devices can handle. The Extō is going to charge your device as fast as possible without putting it at risk and that’s the best you can ask for. Conway’s extra attention to style and detail are just a cherry on top of my power supply sundae.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been keeping the Extō underneath our couch, sliding it out when needed to power my iPhone or iPad and MacBook. The best part is, with 12-feet of cord length I don’t have to reach behind the couch to plug anything in. If it gets left out in the open, it isn’t an eye-sore and has actually turned in to something of a conversation piece.

Conway Electric offers a wide variety of power solutions, some with USB ports and varying amount of plug-ins. The Extō Dual-USB in mint is going to run you $149. That may seem like a lot of money for a power supply, but if you take into consideration the level of detail, UL certification and all-American manufacturing, it’s an appropriate price tag. You’ll get a top-of-the-line power solution with a great story behind it, all the while supporting some great folks in America.
