Amazon has taken the wraps off an entire family of new Kindle Fire tablets, including a new budget-friendly $50 model alongside two Kindle Fire HD tablets and a special Kids Edition version with a unique protective case. The new Android-based devices were launched alongside a new Amazon Fire TV family and will feature a revamped user interface, dubbed Fire OS 5 ‘Bellini’…
Amazon’s cheapest Kindle Fire is a new 7-inch (1024 x 600 resolution) tablet boasting a quad-core processor, front and rear cameras as well as Micro SD card expansion up to 128GB extra storage. The device is available to buy for just $50, or you can buy them as a six-pack for $250 (essentially: Buy five, get one free). Previously, it was rumored by WSJ that this device would be feature a display measuring just 6-inches diagonally, bordering on phablet territory. At $50 though, this will easily be one of this year’s biggest impulse buys in the consumer tech market.
Joining the budget 7-inch Fire are two new models of Kindle Fire HD. Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 feature 8-inch and 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 displays respectively. Like the Fire tablet, the HD series also packs a quad-core processor. The new mid-tier tablets have stereo speakers powered by Dolby Audio as well as front and rear cameras, plus a microSD card slot for up to 128GB extra capacity to store media. Fire HD will also be the first tablets to run on Amazon’s new Fire OS 5 ‘Bellini’. This software was shown off in previous leaks of the 10-inch device and looks much more like standard Android than previous versions of the Amazon-made OS.
The Fire HD 8 is available to pre-order from $149 in both 8GB and 16GB storage options with a choice of four colors: black, orange, blue and pink. The HD 10 starts from $229 and is available in 16GB and 32GB storage options. Devices will ship on or after September 30th.
Like last year, Amazon has seen fit to launch a kid-friendly tablet. Amazon’s updated Fire Kids Edition will come with a new Kindle Tablet housed inside a bespoke kid-proof case, as well as one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, 20k curated kids sites and YouTube videos as well as a two-year warranty. The Fire Kids Edition will cost just $99.99 and is available to pre-order from today.
Amazon’s new Fire TV may look the same on the outside, but a lot has changed on the inside and it’s available as a special bundle for gamers. The all-new Amazon Fire TV supports 4K video for the first time and has Amazon’s personal digital assistant, Alexa, built in as standard. What’s more, it has a beefier 2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and better Wi-Fi. You can pre-order today for $99.99 for delivery on October 5th, or you can spend $40 more and get the Gaming Edition. The Gaming Edition comes with a Fire TV Gaming Controller, a 32GB MicroSD card and a two games (DuckTales: Remastered and Shovel Knight).
