The future is here. You can now press a button on your Apple Watch and sit back as your entire lawn is manicured thanks to Husqvarna’s latest innovation. The new Automower Connect app for watchOS is an extension of its previously released iOS utility. It works with Husqvarna’s full line of robotic lawn mowers and adds another layer to these sweet lawn care devices…
Husqvarna released the first Automower back in 1995. Since then, home automation has taken off as products like robotic vacuums have become viable additions to daily life. Over that period of time, Husqvarna has developed and expanded the Automower line to three devices that are smartphone connected.
The ability to activate the mower from your wrist is just the latest step in making your home a modern day Jetson-like experience. Olle Markusson, robotic category manager at Husgvarna explains further:
“21 years ago Husqvarna set the first robotic mower on the market, and we have been pushing the technological frontier ever since. With Automower Connect for Apple Watch™, Husqvarna takes the user experience to yet another level and strengthens its innovation lead in the growing robotic mower market.”
The watchOS app will allow users to monitor the status of the Automower 320, 330X and 450X. Features include the ability to start, stop and park the mower when needed. Additionally, settings can be manipulated and push notifications are available in the event the mower is moved.
When you step back and consider how many of us still use standard lawnmowers, this feature really is impressive in terms of how far we’ve come. Sure, it may be novelty and niche, given that it requires an Automower and Apple Watch but it still has value. Any step in bringing additional functionality to Apple Watch is a good thing in our book.
