SapienStone’s Smart Slab is the coolest dining room table you’ve ever seen

We’ve pretty much seen every kind of smart device that you can imagine these days. It was just a matter of time until the dining room table found its 21st century design. The SapienStone Smart Slab combines a bevy of sensors into a gorgeous ceramic slab that is described as “wafer thin”. Naturally, it has all of the charging, controls and communication systems that you’d expect…

Instead of attempting to integrate your table into the kitchen as a great room or all-in-one space, SapienStone becomes your cooking space. We’ll get to the smart features in a second but the true core of this table is the ability to prepare your food with your company. The 6mm slade has an anodized aluminum underside and legs that support while hiding the cables. On top, there are multiple inductive cooking surfaces plus cooling and warming zones. Everything is controlled by a touch interface and LED notifiers.

This table is not a gimmick, either. The creators see it as a viable option for preparing professional-grade meals with precise temperature capabilities. Using inductive heating allows for designated heating and cooling zones that keep meals at the appropriate consistency. Perhaps my favorite piece is the ability to heat your place-setting, allowing for a plate to maintain a slightly warmer temperature or to keep a bottle of champagne cooled.

Of course, it has a built-in wireless antenna system for communicating and updating firmware if needed. The Smart Slab is able to alert users to changes in temperature or adjustments that are needed throughout the meal. As beautiful as the table is, there are two areas that stick out as sore thumbs. Naturally, it needs a power supply so you’ll have a cord extending from the base to your nearest outlet. Along those same lines, Sapien wasn’t quite able to hide all of the wires underneath, which is a deal breaker for some.

After being teased at the Milan Design show and fully announced recently, it is now available for custom ordering. Pricing is not exactly clear but you can be sure that this table will come at a high cost.
