The Cyclotron Bike has a crazy futuristic look with smartphone connectivity, spoke-less wheels and more

What’s new for the bicycle? We’ve already explored a variety of electric options that use old-school designs and fresh techniques. I guess it’s time to think ahead. The Cyclotron does just that. Aside from its futuristic name, it has next-gen looks, too. It recently hit Kickstarter with eyes on raising around $56,000. With just four days remaining, backers have committed over double that amount…

With some 15 patents in hand, Cyclotron still has a long road ahead. Fully funding its Kickstarter campaign is another step in the right direction. You see, creating a bicycle without any wheels or spokes is not the easiest proposition. This is slated to be the first commercially availably product of its kind, so there is bound to be some bumps in the road.

The built-in battery provides juice to the ambient lighting system, giving enough juice for eight hours of ride time. Spoke-less wheels rest between carbon fiber forks that provide extra stability. The goal here is to create a smoother ride that has less opportunity to break down. Without any air and minimal moving parts, Cyclotron hopes to stand the test of time. Another unique benefit is the ability to use that space between the tires for storage, if needed. Every piece of wiring is hidden within the frame for an extra clean look.

Another big part of Cyclotron is the smartphone app that provides real-time insights into your ride. Bluetooth LE sensors communicate a number of different data points, if needed. The app also provides step-by-step navigation to your destination. There is an automatic lock for theft prevention and the app can even notify emergency services in the event of an accident.

The Cyclotron is available in a variety of different manual and automatic configurations with prices starting at $1,012. It is slated to ship next summer.
