Anker GlassGuard for Nintendo Switch

While Nintendo has struggled to keep its new Switch gaming console in stock, we’ve seen a steady stream of accessories come to market over the last two months. Trusted brand Anker is one of those companies that has pushed out a couple of add-ons for Nintendo’s latest handheld. Today, I’ll be taking a quick look at its GlassGuard screen protectors that are designed specifically for Switch.

As our own Ben Schoon noted in his review, Nintendo Switch is prone to scratches as a mobile console that regularly gets tossed into your backpack. As well, the constant removal from its dock can also cause the occasional nick and bump. One of my favorite features of Nintendo Switch is its portable functionality, thus a giant scratch across the display would be heartbreaking. Anker has taken its popular GlassGuard iPhone screen protectors and re-designed it for Switch with a few key features…

In The Box

Anker makes some of our favorite smartphone accessories on the market today, so it’s no surprise that its Switch-focused screen protector continues that trend. One thing that I personally love is that all of the necessary extras for a smooth installation are included in the box. You’ll receive two GlassGuard screen protectors, as well as a microfiber wipe, rubbing alcohol and placement stickers for multiple uses.

Everything ships in a sealed cardboard envelop denoting the contents and the Anker brand. Once you slice it open, each GlassGuard is sealed with protective foam and covered in a peel-away film. The inside of the envelop includes all of the necessary instructions for installation.

The GlassGuard Experience

Once upon a time, I installed a screen protector on every device that I owned. It only took one key-scratched Blackberry display for me to become a big believer in this low-cost investment. But as new materials have been introduced and carelessness has subsided, I’ve generally passed over this accessory on my last couple of iPhones.

It was probably foolish of me to think this, but it came as a surprise just how glass-like Anker’s screen protectors are. The Amazon listing says it is made from tempered glass with a “market-leading 9H hardness rating.” While I can’t speak to that claim specifically, for a screen protector I was really pleased with the weight and quality. It doesn’t feel cheap by any means, this is a premium product.

Installing Anker’s GlassGuard for Nintendo Switch

As I noted above, Anker includes a couple of helpful tools for installing its GlassGuard screen protectors. First up, you’ll lay the protector itself on your Nintendo Switch without removing the protective film. Attaching the labeled hinge and pull tab stickers give you something to grab onto instead of handling the protector itself.

From there, you’ll pull back the now sticker-attached screen protector and clean it with the included alcohol wipe and microfiber cloth. Anker also sends along a dust removal sticker for getting those pesky last minute particles off your display. From there, you’ll remove the film on the screen side and lower it into place, pressing down from the middle outwards. Finally, take the hinge and pull-tab stickers off and use the cardboard card to smooth out any air bubbles.

Final Thoughts

Anker’s GlassGuard screen protector for Nintendo Switch usually sells for around $9, but at this time you grab the two-pack for $6.99 Prime shipped with code BEST7475. Whether you’re paying the discounted price or the regular going rate of $9, this is a worthwhile investment. Like I said above, you don’t want to accidentally scratch your brand new Nintendo Switch.

All told, my installation and experience thus far has been without issue. I wouldn’t call myself a screen protector install expert, but my Switch is protected and there aren’t any pesky air bubbles distracting from Zelda. So I’m happy all around.
