TP-Link enters the smart camera business with the KC120 Kasa Cam

TP-Link is a trusted name when it comes to Internet-connected devices, and they just announced their latest device. With the announcement of the KC120 Kasa Cam, TP-Link decided to enter the smart camera business. With 1920×1080 recording, night vision up to 25-feet, and a 130-degree wide-angle lens, this is set up to be a killer camera. It also features two-way communication via built-in speakers and microphones, and the upcoming Amazon Alexa Show integration means that it’ll be easier than ever to communicate to those on the other end of your smart camera.

TP-Link offers some great features with the KC120,  like a magnetic base for easy mounting, wall mount hardware if you’d prefer to mount it that way, and AES-128 bit encryption. The encryption is to make sure that your camera recordings stay safe and away from those who you don’t want to access them. Another awesome feature of the Kasa is that it has “activity zones” so that way you only get notifications and recording when there is movement in a specific part of the camera’s vision.

Since the KC120 has those “activity zones”, you can make it so that it only records to the cloud when there is activity worth recording. TP-Link includes 1GB of free cloud storage, which they say gives you around 2 days of recording. If you’d prefer to keep more recordings stored, they do offer upgrade options to give you more cloud storage. TP-Link also includes a 30-day free trial to access the entire months worth of recordings. Right now Kasa Care (this cloud storage service) is in beta until the middle of November, 2017 and looks to be free to use until the end of the beta period. Pricing is unknown at this time, but will be announced after the beta ends, we assume.

With the built-in speaker and microphone, and live video feed you can easily talk to those on the other end and hold an entire conversation. This makes it great to keep an eye on the kids after school, the baby in the nursery, or just the entire house when you’re away.

The KC120 Kasa Cam is available now for $129.99 from TP-Link’s website and Amazon with free Prime shipping.
