When the current iPod nano form factor was announced in September of 2010, Steve Jobs said it’d make a perfect watch. Over a year later, in October 2011, Apple rolled out a new iPod nano software update that takes this concept to the next level. This update not only included an easier-to-navigate user interface experience, but included several new clock faces. Taking advantage of the prospects of what an iPod nano watch could mean, companies like LunaTik have been rolling out bands for the iPod nano.
LunaTik is the premier iPod nano watchband company, jumping into the market early on with a Kickstarter campaign. Now they are ever larger and are launching some incredible iPod nano watch band products. I had the opportunity to review one of their premier designs: the LunaTik LYNK blackout. Read the full review after the break:
The material that the watchband is made of is high-quality aluminum, and it is thinned out to make the the band light and easy to wear. While light, it is very durable and makes a great accessory for any wrist. The LYNK comes with links to extend the size of the watch band so it can become a perfect fit for almost anybody. The band itself is very nice and perfect for anybody looking for a fashionable and technological alternative to the everyday wrist watch. It will surely garner attention.
The only real knock – in terms of design – against the watchband is setup difficulty. Setting up the watch band is a slight chore, yet you’re able to figure it out with the instructions. Setup requires the use of screws in order to make room for the iPod nano prior to sliding it in. I wish the nano was able to simply slide in and out of its slot, but perhaps that will come in a future version of the LYNK.
As a a watch, the iPod nano is pretty unique. Using it as a clock is a breeze with the numerous clock faces that Apple includes, and accessing your music collection from your wrist is a quick and satisfying experience. The new user interface with large, gorgeous icons on the iPod nano is perfect for simple swiping through the operating system while wearing the product as a watch.
We’ve long been fans of using the iPod nano 6th and 7th generation as a watch, and the fashionability of the LunaTik LYNK makes doing so an even better experience. The LYNK, a somewhat pricy accessory, currently runs for around $140 at Amazon.
