The Atlas Wristband can discern between different fitness activities

It’s a crowded world for those in the wearable and fitness tracking industry. Now with Apple breathing down the neck of the competition, it is key for these companies to find a way to stand out. Up and comer Atlas is beginning to detail its new Wristband, which offers a number of interesting features. This uniquely designed fitness tracker has one standout feature, the ability to recognize and track different workout activities using a proprietary algorithm. Not just, swimming versus running, but butterfly versus backstroke. Or push-ups versus triangle push-ups.

The design is fairly unique too, think Pebble Watch meets Nike Fuelband.

The display is simplistic, it tells your heart rate, the identified activity and the amount of reps accomplished. It can also recognize the amount of weight being lifted, all of this is accounted for to paint a more accurate picture of your fitness life. While there are many devices out there that track calories burned, they don’t always accurately track your progress. For example, different activities burn calories at different rates, but some devices recognize them as all being the same. These devices are giving an estimate of what you burned, while the Wristband can in theory use specific exercise data to accurately measure your progress.

The Atlas Wristband comes with all the expected smart device features, it connects with your iPhone via an app and records data over time. It uses dual M4 ARM processors to record movement and data, while reporting it via Bluetooth connectivity. No worries when it comes to swimming either, the Wristband is water resistant up to 50 meters. Of course, it doubles as a regular watch so you can tell time when you’re away from the gym. The 128×64 pixel screen is powered by a 120mAh lithium polymer battery that is rated to last for seven days based on one hour daily workouts.

Available for pre-order now, the Atlas Wristband retails for $249 in yellow or green with black accents.
