Well, we have seen just about every kind of drone there is out there from tiny little ones, to those you just throw up in the air to launch and ones that take your iPhone up with them. But for inventor Holger Willeke and his new yeair quadcopter drone, they just aren’t powerful enough:
While you can head over to Amazon right now and pickup a mini flying drone for less than $20 Prime shipped, this new flyer is all about speed and power. Combining electrical engines with a combustible design, yeair can top out at 100km/h, while carrying a 5 kg payload. In other words, it can carry a full sized cinema camera array and can go fast enough to follow a speeding vehicle.
We have developed an elaborated system with an electrically powered alternate/hub shaft. This shaft is directly coupled to the combustor to relate accelerations and delay values, effectively empowering the quadcopter to fly as stable as e-flight-only, giving it more power for a longer period of time.
On top of autonomous flight options with a “follow me” mode, this premium quadcopter can stay in the air for a full hour without needing to juice up. With a price of entry at just under €1,399 (about $1,520) or more, yeair likely isn’t for everyone and appears to be marketed towards serious filmmakers and those with expensive drone habits.
At just under half of its €70,000 goal on Kickstarter, yeair still has some convincing to do.
