Meet Kuri, an intelligent little robot friend on wheels that is packed with some serious tech. Making an appearance at CES this year, and expected to begin shipping in late 2017, this little robot has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 1080p camera, full iOS/Android app control and more. While the tech is interesting here, it’s the personality Mayfield Robotics has built-in to the little guy that makes him really standout:
Kuri can understand context and surroundings, recognize specific people, and respond to questions with facial expressions, head movements, and his unique, lovable sounds. Like many adored robots in popular culture, his personality and ability to connect are his greatest attributes.
This is not your typical toy-grade robot, Kuri is designed to help you keep an eye on your home and learn its layout in the meantime, among many other things. A 4-array mic set-up and Bluetooth speakers allows Kuri to follow you around the house playing podcasts/music while you’re getting ready to go out for the night, read the kids a bedtime story and respond to you with adorable little chirps. Packed with sensors and support for IFTTT, the bot can also communicate with other smart home devices and won’t bump into every chair while it’s doing it.
Kuri is 20-inches tall, weighs about 14-pounds and has about 3 hours of battery life. But don’t worry, he just returns to his charging dock for a nap on his own. Available for pre-order today for $699 with a $100 deposit, Kuri is expected to start shipping “Holiday 2017”.
