LG tries to take over the world with new lineup of adorable life-size robots for the home, airport and more

LG has had a busy week at CES 2017 thus far with new Nano Call UHD TVs, modular home theater sound bars and new entries in its vacuum lineup. But now its time for its IoT and artificial intelligence divisions to step into the spotlight. The company is bringing 4 new smart robots for inside your home, to take care of the yard work and to guide you through the airport: Head below for the details:

Hub Robot:

Ok so this one is more like mini robot buddy life-size (pictured to the left above), but don’t worry, the big guys are down below. The home Hub Robot has an interactive display that can show pictures recipes, and even what’s left inside the fridge. The robot’s ability to connect with other smart home devices allows it to understand Amazon Alexa voice recognition, adjust the air conditioning, play music, set alarms and much more. Down the line, Hub will be getting some little brothers to communicate with that can be placed all over the home or office as well. Much like the Kuri bot we detailed recently, Hub is designed to have an expressive face and respond to user body language, commands and more:

With its friendly, anthropomorphic design, LG’s Hub Robot can interact with the entire family in a variety of different ways. It can move and swivel in place, as well as express a wide range of emotions by displaying a face on its display.

Lawn Mowing Robot:

LG’s new Lawn Mowing Robot does just that and without bumping into anything in the process. The company claims “this robot benefits from years of development of the HOM-BOT vacuum cleaner to trim grass accurately, reliably and most of all, safely.” While details are somewhat hard to come by on this model, it sounds like we will be hearing even more about it down the line.

Equipped with many of the advanced sensors and bumpers found in the airport robot, the Lawn Mowing Robot recognizes its own location at every moment, as well as the location of every obstacle in sight, such as trees or hedges.

Airport Guide and Cleaning Robots:

LG will also be offering up a pair of adorable, and almost life-size robots to help us in our travels. The Airport Guide Robot (“soon to be seen in Seoul’s Incheon International Airport”) can answer questions in 4 languages, scan boarding passes to provide flight information or the weather for your destination and more. You can also get directions, walking times within the airport and best of all, it will even “escort lost or late travelers to their gates, or any other airport location.”

LG’s Airport Cleaning Robot is a “super-sized robot vacuum” with advanced mapping technology and an array of sensors to keep even the busiest of airports spic and span. It uses a host of cameras as well as “light detection and ranging (LIDAR)” to get the job done in the most efficient way possible. No word on where this guy will be deployed first, but if you see a giant adorable Pixar-like robot roaming the airport somewhere, you’ll know where you heard about it first.
