While normally a quieter month in the gaming world, with the announcement of the Nintendo Switch price and release date, January has been quite busy. We now know The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild will be releasing on day one with the new Nintendo hybrid console, and we couldn’t be happier about it. However, in the meantime we still have a few months to kill before the March 3rd release date and there are some big titles hitting store shelves this month.
PS4 gamers are in for a treat this month with the release of RE7: Biohazard which might be the most drastic (and welcomed) departure for the series yet. We are also getting the sequel to Gravity Rush which has already reviewed quite well, some Yakuza action and more Kingdom hearts to tie us over until KH3. Head below the fold for all the details and some pre-order discounts:
Gravity Rush 2 – Jan 20th
Gravity Rush 2 is dropping later this month for PlayStation 4. The sequel introduces a number of improvements over its predecessor including a series of new gravity modes allowing the player to drastically flip between play-styles at will. Here’s a sweet 17-min animation known as “Overture” Sony released to bridge the story between the two games.
Brand new story with more story missions than ever, in a richly detailed open world 2.5 times larger than before…Manipulate gravity and soar through the skies at the touch of a button with the DUALSHOCK 4 motion sensors…Perform powerful new tag-team attacks with the AI-controlled Raven
Gravity Rush 2 (PS4) $53 or $48 shipped for Prime members
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – Jan 24th
The PS VR compatible Resident Evil 7 is somewhat of a departure from the usual RE experience fans have come to love. Despite the new first person perspective, it looks as though many of the series’ long-standing gameplay mechanics and tropes will be at play including a “a sinister plantation mansion”, green herbs, puzzles and survival elements. Capcom released a 10-part series showcasing the gameplay and other features to prep us for the January 24th release. You can also play the demo on your PS4 right now.
Set within a sinister plantation mansion in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective for the first time in the series. Embodying the iconic gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago, Resident Evil 7 biohazard delivers a disturbingly realistic experience that will define the next era in horror entertainment.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (PS4, PSVR, PC and Xbox One) $60 or $48 shipped for Prime members
Yakuza 0 – Jan 24th
For all the late 80’s Tokyo kung-fu action you could ever ask for, Yakuza O hits PS4 in North America on January 24th.The “story follows Kazuma Kiryu as a junior yakuza member who finds himself in a world of trouble when a simple debt collection goes wrong and his mark winds up murdered.”
Fight Like Hell: Kiryu and Majima can each switch between three brutal hand-to-hand combat styles on the fly to create the most fluid beatdowns ever experienced in a Yakuza game.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue – Jan 24th
This is a collection of previously released material brought together to tie over fans eagerly awaiting KH3. It features Dream Drop Distance from the 3DS, a series of cut-scenes (HD movie) that take place long before the events of the first game known as Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover and the completely new episode 0.2 Birth By Sleep — A Fragmentary Passage. That last one features Aqua as a new playable character.
Originally released in 2012, KINGDOM HEARTS [Dream Drop Distance] HD is a full-HD remastered version of KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance], brought to console for the first time.
