Grado introduces new GH2 Headphones sourced from Central American cocobolo wood

Today, Grado has announced the newest addition to its family of popular Brooklyn-made headphones, the GH2. Made from cocobolo wood, a tropical hardwood commonly found in Central America, these new open-air cans continue the familiar design of Grado’s Heritage Series. You’ll remember the first model, which featured locally-sourced materials from Brooklyn trees. Cocobolo wood is known for its common use in musical instruments, making it an ideal companion. We spoke to Jonathan Grado, who explains further:

“Our GH1 was built from a Brooklyn tree near Grados location, but with the GH2 we wanted to venture further out. Central America is where we landed. We’ve never worked with a wood that had such unique patterns. We’ve never had such visual differences from pair to pair as with the GH2. No matter how striking the aesthetic, we wouldn’t have used this wood and gone through with this limited edition if it didn’t resemble the Grado signature sound. We couldn’t be more excited though that the tonal abilities of cocobolo met our standards and we were able to build the GH2.”

The new Grado HG2 Headphones are available for purchase today via 4OurEars at $650.

Grado introduces the second limited edition of the Heritage Series, the GH2. Cocobolo wood, known for fine musical instruments, is some of the most beautiful and tonally pleasing woods in nature. “We’ve never had such striking visual differences from pair to pair as with the GH2” Cocobolo wood originates from the rain forests of Central America, and its denseness is a primary reason why it produces such a unique sound. Grado Limited Editions allow experimentation with different woods and designs, resulting in unique headphones. We’re extremely pleased to offer the cocobolo GH2 as one of the finest headphones we’ve ever built at Grado.
