The Joto drawing robot sketches out your app-controlled art, headlines from Alexa, Slack and more

Remember the Etch A Sketch? That was a pretty cool toy back in the day but I was always frustrated with my inability to draw precise lines (unlike this guy). Perhaps Kickstarter’s latest darling, the Joto drawing robot was what I needed. After hitting the crowdfunding site a few days ago, this app-powered intelligent whiteboard has raised over $105,000, well on its way to fulfilling its $122,000 goal.

So how does it work? Joto connects to your device, Alexa, Spotify, or Slack to communicate updates, calendar events and news headlines. That’s right, something pertinent happens in your life and Joto will scribble out the message with its floating robotic arm. But back to my Etch-a-sketch woes, you can also draw on your iPhone or Android and it will be recreated with Joto. All-around, a pretty cool toy. Currently a pledge of $199 will deliver a unit at the end of the year.

The first connected display that draws with a pen. It is designed to be hung on your wall like a picture frame. Joto is not another screen, quite the opposite, it turns pictures and words from your screen into pen and ink drawings. As soon as you send something to it, Joto’s pen starts to move. It has an eraser and a dock too, so the pen doesn’t dry out and when you are ready for something new, it refreshes the surface and prepares itself for your next Jot.
