After Bethesda dropped a lengthy free demo for the stellar Dishonored 2 last week across all platforms, it is now doing the same with its massively multiplayer Elder Scrolls title. Prospective adventurers yet to give this one a try will be able to to do so starting tomorrow, but only for a limited time…
Anyone familiar with the Elder Scrolls series will know these are massive open world games that are largely based on allowing players to decide what they want to be, how they want to be and where they want to be it. Dragons, swords, magic spells, evil wizards and a vast, immersive world, the Elder Scrolls series has basically written the book on open-world fantasy-adventure RPGs.
It has been some time since we have seen a main entry in the series, as the fantastic Elder Scrolls Skyrim released back in 2011. In the meantime, Bethesda hit us with another Fallout title and The Elder Scrolls Online.
ESO offers up much of the same experience the main-line Elder Scrolls titles have become known for – crafting, exploration, etc. – but with a largely online twist. Take on missions by yourself or “ join an army of hundreds in epic PVP battles”.
Bethesda is also throwing in some free currency to new players to the tune of 500 Crowns. This will give noobs a nice head start at the Crown Store for things like XP boosts, outfits, Crown Crates and more. Any of the progress you make during the free period will indeed transfer over if you choose to purchase the full experience, including Crown packs and other purchased items. Additionally, if you have participated in one these ESO free events in the past, you should see all of your progress carry over.
Fortunately, Bethesda is in the middle of its three-year anniversary event for the game, so you can also add in another XP boost item for free on top of all that.
As we mentioned above, you’ll be able to step into the world of Tamriel for free starting tomorrow on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac and PC. This might be the largest “free demo” we have seen yet considering the entirety of the base game will open to players for nothing from April 11th, 2017 at 10:00 am EDT until April 18, 2017, at 10:00 am EDT. As expected, only the base game is available, not the the add-on DLC game pack areas.
Now while the DLC and other add-ons will also be on sale during this time, clearly to promote interest in the game and its expansions, that might not be the most affordable way to jump in. It is a good idea to try the game out for free and then grab it for just $13 Prime shipped on Amazon before taking advantage of the digital DLC sales.
Recently we also saw 2K put up a free demo for Mafia 3 where players can try out the entire first act for free before transferring over progress to the full game.
