While US and European gamers have no guarantees on the recently announced Monster Hunter Nintendo Switch console, the very first official special edition Pro Controller will be releasing in North America and elsewhere next month…
The very first themed Nintendo Switch Pro Controller will be going to Splatoon 2. The sequel to Nintendo’s new ink shooter franchise is set to release along side the new SE controller in July. Much like the treatment the Monster Hunter Switch received, there are some nice subtle grey-on-grey logos and monikers collaged across the body of the controller with some questionable and extremely bright, solid block-colored grips.
Nintendo is an absolute master when it comes to creating enduring iconography for its IP, whether it’s Mario and friends or not. And clearly it has done another amazing job with the Splatoon series. The new controller will feature much of the goopy and animated imagery found in the games and its marketing materials, but it’s not all good here.
The subtle collage of logos and ink splats on the body look great, but those handles though, I’m not so sure. It certainly works within the design aesthetic of the game and even the dual-tone, blue and red Switch Joy-Con to a certain degree (of which I’m also not a big fan of), however, something is just not working here folks.
But hey, that’s just me. It will certainly be a great addition to any Nintendo enthusiasts collection, and, maybe for the kids or something?
Nonetheless the new, and very first Nintendo Switch Special Edition Pro Controller is now up for pre-order at Walmart for $74.99. The Amazon listing for the pre-order is yet to go live. It will release on July 21st alongside Splatoon 2, which is currently available to pre-order for Amazon Prime members at just $47.99 shipped.
If you need a Pro Controller now, and if you’re anything like me, you definitely do, Walmart has them on sale for just $64 shipped at the moment if you act quick. Otherwise they go for $69 at Amazon and elsewhere.
For all things gaming hit up our Games/Apps Guide and stay locked to Toys for all the biggest announcements from this year’s E3. We are expecting to see some nice discounts start to pop-up tomorrow, but you can already grab the all-gold 1TB PlayStation 4 for just $249.99.
