With E3 just around the corner, developers and accessory makers are racing to announce new gear ahead of next week’s event. The latest of which is a line of Nintendo Switch add-ons from Bionik. Five new products are coming down the line for the hybrid console, including a unique combination power supply and Joy-Con holder. More below.
The standout accessory for me is the Power Plate System that Bionik is introducing for Nintendo Switch. One of the biggest challenges that faces this new console is balancing portability with battery life. Power Plate addresses this issue in a few ways while also maintaining the attached Joy-Con setup that some gamers, like myself, prefer.
Power Plate has a built-in 4500mAh battery, which is a substantial amount of juice. That’s enough to charge the console itself once or a pair of Joy-Con over three times. I’m intrigued because it brings more of a traditional controller shape in the hand than even Nintendo’s bundled Charging Grip. Bionik includes a charging dock with purchase. There’s also the Duo model that brings twice the charging capacity. You’ll have to cough up an additional $50 and $70, respectively to add these accessories to your setup.
If you’re just looking for an at-home charging solution when your Switch isn’t in use, Bionik has you covered too. The Tetra Power station is a standalone accessory that can charge up to four Joy-Cons at a time. I’m pretty keen on the design here, especially if you have a pair of neon controllers, or better yet a Colorware-customized set. There are built-in LED indicators that communicate charging levels. Bionik’s Tetra Power charging stand will retail for $29.99 when it is released.
Rounding out the list of new Nintendo Switch accessories is the Giganet adapter, which provides up to 1000Mbps speeds and is designed specifically to fit inside the charging dock. With some gamers reporting network problems via Wi-Fi on Switch, it’s no surprise that accessory makers are rolling out this kind of product. It will retail for $29.99.
Bionik is also shipping an “ultra durable” woven six-foot USB-C cable as well. There’s not much to say here, as it offers little to no advantage of comparable options already on the market today. And at $14.99, it has a higher price, too.
We’ve yet to see a finalized release date on Bionik’s latest accessories, but we’re expecting to catch more details next week at E3.
