There are some strange unique accessories out there for Amazon’s Echo Dot. From owl, penguin and rubix cube stands to hanging outlet mounts and decal skins, there are a lot of loud choices.

But what if you’re looking for a more refined and subtle option that will complement your home? Enter Kaizen Woodworks, a company making affordable handmade Echo Dot stands that also offers custom engraving. Follow along after the break for a hands-on look.

Materials & Build

All of Kaizen Woodworks’ Echo Dot stands (created for the 2nd gen.) are made from a solid piece of cedar and sanded/stained by hand. There are four colors available including Espresso, Rustic Brown, Aged White, and Carbon Gray. Every stand will have a unique aesthetic because each one is handmade from real wood with varying grain, character, etc.

Kaizen offers a choice of a 4x4x2-inch or a 4x4x4-inch size stand. The space where the Dot sits is just a bit larger than the smart speaker so audio output isn’t hindered.

The back of the stands feature a cutout so the microUSB port and AUX input are easy to access, while cork lines the interior of the stand so your Echo Dot won’t get scratched.

Another aspect that sets these stands apart is that you can opt for custom engraving, great for gifts or your business logo. There are some size requirements and limitations for engraving, and Kaizen notes that simple logos and text are best.

However, as you can see below, even cursive text looks fantastic on the stands. Plan on a week or so lead time for custom engraving, which is only available on the larger model. Kaizen also offers options for bulk orders.

In Use

I really enjoy the warm, polished look that Kaizen’s stands bring to the Echo Dot along with how it can complement a home’s decor. I also like that they can help hide the power and/or AUX cable (especially the 4x4x4 size).

I didn’t notice any issues with the Dot’s audio output when using the stand. However, most of the time I pair a JBL Charge speaker to my Echo Dot that sits in the living room.

Kaizen Woodworks’ Echo Dot stands start at an affordable $17 Prime shipped on Amazon and go up to about $37 shipped for the custom engraved options. You can also check out Kaizen Woodworks’ other handmade products including entryway organizers and bottle openers on its website.
