The Meural Canvas brings culture home with over 30,000 works of art

High-tech digital picture frames aren’t exactly new, as we’ve seen a few different models popup in the past few months. Samsung’s The Frame is geared towards casual use, while the Depict Frame better suits art aficionados and enthusiasts. The Merual Canvas on the other hand, is a more modest approach which positions itself in between these two sides of the digital canvas spectrum.  So rather than dominate an entire wall, it looks to enhance an existing area; be it by complementing family photos or displaying favorite artists’ work in your study.

Based around a 1080p, 27-inch display, the Meural Canvas most likely won’t be the largest screen in your home. And while it isn’t tiny, its modest size allows the digital frame to blend into one’s photos and home decor more naturally than a more massive display would. Wrapped in an authentic wood casing, it comes in two different color options; black and white. A third ‘floating Lightbox style’ is avoidable as well. It can be used either horizontally or vertically to make the most of the space available in your home.

One of the biggest selling points for these digital frames are that they come bundled with high-quality, curated art collections. The Meural Canvas is no exception to this of course, and offers access to over 30,000 works of art, no paid subscription required. You can also upload your own photos and images as well, so you can relive those family moments or enjoy that breathtaking sunset photo. The Merual Canvas also works with GIFs, so you can display captivating moving images as well.

With the help of a built-in ambient light sensor, the digital canvas can adjust each image according to the room’s current lighting. Paired with an anti-glare matte display coating, the Meural Canvas is said to not only deflect distorting light, but also organically amplify color. All this adds up to offering a more accurate visualization of its high-resolution artworks.

Changing the displayed images can be done in a number of ways. Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, the Meural Canvas can pair to a companion iOS or Android app that allows you to create slideshows, upload new artworks and more. A web-based portal is available as well. More interestingly, you can also swipe through artworks and access device settings with gesture controls.

Starting at $595, the Meural Canvas looks to be a solid option for incorporating high-quality art into your office, living room and home. While it is unfortunately out of stock, more are said to be arriving towards the end of the summer. For the time being you can join a wait list to be notified when more units are available. Of all the digital picture frames we’ve seen, this certainly looks to be the most compelling in terms of pricing, functionally and size. If you’re in the market for something on the larger side, the Depict Frame might be just what you’re looking for.
