LEGO continues to release stellar kits that pack tons of detail and even more pieces. While most of these sets stem from the minds of LEGO’s masterbuilders, more and more have LEGO Ideas to thank. Unfortunately, there’s no telling when or if these potential sets will be available for purchase. We’ll be rounding up the coolest kits we saw in July, from insects, spacecraft and more.
While we’re definitely seeing more kits brought to us by way of LEGO Ideas, tons of projects never make it to the review process, meaning we LEGO fans miss out on some really neat would-be kits. In order to actually become a set, proposed ideas have to gain support from at least 10,000 people in a given time.
Following a successful campaign, a review board of set designers and marketing representatives evaluates each potential set to ensure there are no issues and they can actually be made into finalized product. Finally, the set gets reworked to ensure it’s stable for a wide release. Because each idea is essentially crowdfunded, it’s up to us to help gets sets into review.
Insects Project
Back in 2015, LEGO released one of its first Ideas sets, the Bird Model Kit, which included a Blue Jay, Humming Bird and Robin. Following the same out-doorsy vibe, builder Legomichiiiiii has recreated a variety of insects into incredibly life-like brick-built replicas. The set itself stems from the creator’s childhood fun with insects which he hopes will help others create new memories thanks to the insect models. The proposed set includes a beetle, dragonfly, praying mantis, bee and more. With almost 600 days left, these creepy-crawlers still have 9,000 supports to go before becoming
are just 10 percent of the way there towards becoming a real set.
Spacecraft Micro Set
Recently LEGO hasn’t been shying away from space-themed builds. Creator Micro_Model_Maker continues this trend by reimagining four of NASA’s most famous spacecraft in miniature brick-built renditions. While not as detailed as the SATURN V kit, these micro-kits showcase the Discovery Shuttle, Hubble Telescope, Pioneer 10 Probe and Viking 1 in hopes of teaching kids and even adults more about NASA’s history. So far the Micro NASA Spacecraft set has amassed over 1,100 supporters and has 580 days to reach the review limit.
NASA Space Shuttle
Having gained support from over 5,200 patrons, the NASA Space Shuttle kit is well on its way towards gaining approval. In the same scale as the recently released SATURN V rocket, this potential kit would be the perfect companion display piece. Along with the Space Shuttle itself, you’ll find Solid Rocket Boosters, external fuel tanks and everything you need to be ready for lift off. Sets of this scale typically ditch any included minifigures, but KingsKnight, the set’s creator, didn’t want to leave out any astronauts, so you’ll find some pretty nice microfigures.
Old Farmhouse
If insects and spacecraft aren’t your favorite building themes, the Old Farmhouse project might be right up your alley then. Complete with windmill and water well, the farmhouse has a full interior packed with details. While the other sets we’ve looked at are great for putting on display, this one looks to be perfect for kids and collectors alike. Accompanying the farmhouse you’ll also find two farmer minifigures, chickens and horses. With 404 days left in its campaign, the Old Farmhouse kit has over 750 supporters.
While you won’t find these sets on any store shelves just head, you can always head here to check out newly released, reviewed and discounted LEGO kits.
