Samsung’s SmartThings Smart Home system has long been a fan favorite for bringing smartphone control, automations and more to one’s home. Now in an interesting turn of events, the company has paired with ADT to announce a new DIY Home Security and Automation system.
SmartThing’s history of releasing home-based gadgets like motion detectors, door sensors and more makes today’s announcement a logical step forward for Samsung. The partnership between the two companies has resulted in the ADT Home Security Starter Kit, which is comprised of a central Security Hub that pairs to a variety of connected devices to help keep tabs on your home.
Alongside the hub in the starter kit you’ll find two door and window sensors as well as a general purpose motion detector. The ADT hub is also compatible with SmartThing’s wide assortment of devices, meaning those already deep into Samsung’s ecosystem won’t have an issue using whatever sensors they currently rely on. It also offers control over smart home devices that are supported by the SmartThings platform.
Samsung’s new home security solution is backed by monthly monitoring services provided by ADT. These plans start at $15 a month and offer round the clock coverage in case something unexpected occurs. This 24/7 peace of mind means you’ll never have to worry about your home whether you’re away on vacation or in bed at night.
The new ADT Home Security Starter Kit is currently available for pre-order over at Best Buy and will be launching at the end of the month on October 29th. Retailing for $549.99, the starter kit includes everything you need to get started with home security. Expansion packs are also available to better accommodate larger homes.
