The versatile Bosch drill system, which has been available in Europe for some time, is finally here! The Bosch 12V Max Flexiclick 5-in-1 Drill/Driver System is officially being released in the US today!

From the official press release:

“Bosch’s FlexiClick is a compact 12-volt tool with four professional-grade attachments: a 3/8” keyless chuck, a locking bit holder, a right angle attachment and an offset angle attachment. These offer easy adjustment for screw driving, drilling, right angle drilling/driving, and offset driving close to edges. The tool offers excellent flexibility for projects that range from hanging cabinets to electrical box installation to pre-drilling holes in hardwood. The Bosch FlexiClick Drill/Driver delivers 265 in.-lbs. maximum torque and a maximum speed of 1,300 rpm.

The right angle and the offset angle attachments can be rotated in 16 different positions using one hand and without the need to remove attachments from the tool. And the right angle attachment can be used in conjunction with three additional attachments or can be used alone. Additional attachments include a locking bit holder and the keyless chuck.”

The short of it is that it’s a powerful compact drill system with four easily interchangeable heads, giving unprecedented drilling and driving versatility. Each of the attachments is swapped out with a simple twist of a dial, intuitively positioned at the connection point between the drill and the attachment.

The attachment that has the most obvious utility for all types of users is the Offset Driver attachment. This allows for straight drilling and driving in places where it previously had been very difficult such as shelf brackets, curtain rod brackets, and even doorknob attachment, all of which can be a source of frustration and stripped out screw heads.

The Right Angle Driver attachment is also enormously useful. I have struggled for years with stubby screwdrivers (my knuckles are very happy now) and, more recently, a funky right angle driver attachment that never quite worked as well as it should have. Bosch really nailed it on this one. It works smoothly while drilling holes or driving screws at a right angle in very tight space where even this compact drill would not ordinarily fit.

Versatility is the biggest reason to own this drill/driver system, but I also wanted to check the actual screwdriving performance. To put it to the test, I attached the keyless chuck with driver bit and drove 2.5-inch deck screws through a 1-inch cedar deck board into a pressure treated board, as would be done when building or repairing a deck. This is a demanding task even for a full size driver with an 18- or 20-Volt battery. I was blown away by the results – over 170 screws on one charge! This would allow installation of nearly 5 full rows of deck boards on a 20-foot long deck, far exceeding expectation given the compact size of the tool and battery.

This is a powerful and affordable tool that will save you from all sorts of frustration when you’re drilling and driving in tight spaces. It can handle virtually all of the drilling and driving tasks you are likely to encounter.

The Bosch Flexiclick drill/driver system is available at Amazon for $199. The kit includes a drill/driver, four driver attachments, two Li-Ion batteries (2.0 Ah SlimPack), fast charger and carrying bag.
