With the year on its way out and 2018 just over the horizon, some of the most anticipated offerings from LEGO won’t be massive kits or from a widely-popular series, but a more recent addition. Instead our attention is aimed at the latest from the BrickHeadz series, which LEGO has announced it will be expanding with 6 new figures spanning next year’s major holidays.

Alongside all of the impressive new several thousand piece kits that 2017 has brought us, LEGO has also expanded its lineup of collectible BrickHeadz figures. While a majority of the inclusions we’ve seen were from external properties like DC, Marvel and Star Wars, that’s about to change as LEGO moves into 2018 and introduces more original characters into the series.

At the forefront of these releases of the newly unveiled BrickHeadz figures is the Valentine’s Bee 70270 set which will be coming out, as you probably guessed, to celebrate around Valentines Day. The 140-piece set includes the usual display based along with some added flowers and more. The set’s box also shows off 5 other holiday-themed characters which LEGO will be releasing throughout the year.

While not officially announced, we’re seeing an Easter Bunny, Halloween Witch, Thanksgiving Turkey and Mr. and Mrs. Claus for Christmas join the series as well. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but we’re expecting these new BrickHeadz to follow in their predecessor’s footsteps with the same $10 retail price. Similarly to the recently released Star Wars figures, these new holiday additions will be LEGO Store exclusives.

The new characters feature designs that are inline with what you’d expect from the rest of the lineup. But unlike the Finn and Phasma kits we previously looked at, these additions don’t seem to incorporate any new elements or printed pieces.

So what’s the big deal about LEGO unveiling of these new figures? BrickHeadz are just under a year old, making them one of the most recent additions to the ever expanding LEGO catalog. And the fact that we’ll be starting off next year with 6 new figures means LEGO is serious about supporting this new brand. Even more noteworthy is that LEGO is filling the series with not just characters from well-established IP, but elsewhere as well.

Despite 2017 being an absolutely phenomenal year for massive new kits from LEGO, the BrickHeadz have been some of my favorite additions over the past year. So with 2018 and 6 new figures in our sights, next year may stack up to be just as impressive a year for LEGO fans.
