ShadeCraft showcases Sunflower, “the world’s first autonomous umbrella” at CES

If you somehow haven’t noticed, CES kicked off this weekend and we’ve seen smartphone-enabled devices in just about every area of your home, from connected-vacuum cleaners to Alexa-enabled shower heads. Now, the folks over at ShadeCraft are doing the same for your patio with the official launch of its solar-powered umbrella, Sunflower.

Sunflower, which is said to be the world’s first autonomous robotic shade, is a solar-powered umbrella meant to serve as the ultimate outdoor companion to your patio. And by autonomous, we mean that Sunflower monitors its surroundings to create the maximum amount of shade possible. So the days of constantly moving around to stay out of the sun are over, or so hopes ShadeCraft.

Alongside its ability to automatically adjust to provide the most ideal level of shade coverage, Sunflower also includes a variety of sensors to keep tabs on your outdoor space of choice. This includes humidity, air quality and wind sensors as well as motion detectors and more.

ShadeCraft’s autonomous umbrella also packs additional functionality that makes it even more likely to be the center of your patio. With built-in bluetooth speakers, lights and smartphone charging station, Sunflower incorporates many of the gadgets you may typically have on your porch.  It also sports a 360-degree camera that allows you to check-in on your yard as well as record outdoor get-togethers. If that weren’t enough, Sunflower also boasts voice control that allows you to move the umbrella, play music, toggle lights and more.

As of now, there’s no details as to when ShadeCraft will be launching Sunflower to the public. So if you’re looking to stay out of the sun this summer, a traditional umbrella will have to do the trick.
