This year has already been off to a great start for LEGO news, with announcements from the Ideas team leading the way. Not only did we get a peek at the upcoming Ship in a Bottle kit earlier in the month, but also some info on which sets may be coming to stores throughout the year.
As January comes to a close, we’re once again be taking a look at our favorite potential kits to make their way onto LEGO Ideas. This month packs some delightful Dinos, a townhouse with more than meets the eye and more.
January started out 2018 with some eye-catching and noteworthy LEGO Ideas models. And just like December, it didn’t disappoint with a variety of kits for LEGO fans and collectors of all kinds. But for this month in particular, we’re seeing some detailed must-have models from museum-ready Dinosaur fossils to quaint city buildings.
For those not as familiar with the Ideas process, it’s a fairly rigorous journey for builders to have their kits approved by LEGO. Not only do potential models require an impressive 10,000 supporters, but then must go through a final review step where LEGO designers do a final run through to make sure the kit is store-ready.
The strict policy seems to have payed off for Ideas though, as some of our favorite sets to be released as of late have come from the crowdfunding program.
Modular Arcade
There’s never a shortage of modular City-themed kits to choose from, and January was no exception. This time around, builder Astronaut Avila has channeled some retro inspiration to create a fully-stocked Arcade. With a stylish pizzeria on the ground floor and a decked-out arcade above, the kit is complete with brick-built versions of all your favorite games. Having already brought in over 6,200 supporters, I’ll be shocked if the build doesn’t make it into the first half of 2018’s Ideas review.
Dinosaurs Fossils Skeletons
With the new year bringing with it the latest addition to the Jurassic Park franchise, builder Mukkinn has assembled some incredibly detailed dinosaur skeletons. The well-timed Natural History Collection includes 5 different prehistoric beasts like a Triceratops, Stegosaurus and more.
Each of the skeletons employ some creative techniques to accomplish their unique and detailed designs. The museum-quality dinos have locked in nearly 6,300 supporters and with 500 days left, should have no problem succeeding.
The Mecha Townhouse
Now if the typical City build just doesn’t do it for you anymore, I hear you. With what may very well be one of the most clever builds to hit LEGO Ideas, the Mecha Townhouse is made up of just 1,600 pieces.
With a classic mid-century exterior, creator HiddenDerek has managed to build in a fully transformable robot. There are some pretty sweet techniques applied here and even more creativity. With just over 500 supporters, there’s only 290 days to help this transformable townhouse make it onto store shelves.
