Samson is one of those audio brands that might not standout in a lineup, but it has been offering high-quality products at affordable prices for over 2 decades. The company made its way to Anaheim, California for this year’s NAMM show with a number of new products including new cables, microphones and most interestingly, new powered monitors.
The new MediaOne M50 Powered Studio Monitors are designed specifically for a wealth of desktop applications from gaming and video work to full on music production. As a quick reminder, the “powered” designation on studio monitor products indicates the speakers don’t require and external amplifier and will work with your typical wall outlet. Speaking of which, we are talking about a built-in 80-watt (40 watts per channel), studio-grade A/B amplifier on the M50s.
The solid wood construction is backed up by 5.25-inch polypropylene woofers and 3/4-inch silk-dome tweeters “housed in a custom waveguide that adds smooth highs with a wide sound stage.”
You’ll also find rear stereo RCA and 1/8-inch inputs, a front panel headphone jack with auto muting, and a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) output for an additional subwoofer attachment or something like that. But there is a “Bass Boost switch” if you need a little more low-end.
Sold as a pair (many studio monitors are not) the new Samson MediaOne M50 Powered Studio Monitors ship with a speaker cable and will be available at all major retailers come February for just $119.99. That’s $120 for both speakers. Nice! They might not be as good as a pair of KRKs, but at that price and with Samson’s 20 years of experience in the business, you really can’t go wrong. It looks those PreSonus Eris and Ceres speakers will have some new competition.
On top of that, Samson is also introducing its new Stage 212 Dual-Channel Handheld VHF Wireless Microphone System for stage performers:
In line with Samson’s dedication to driving wireless innovation, the Stage 212’s frequency-agile design offers 12 channels across a 179MHz–197.8MHz frequency range to choose from. In addition, the system’s IR sync function allows users to wirelessly match each transmitter to a receiver’s operating frequency in no time. A 200’ operating range provides ample freedom for any presenter or performing duo.
It includes two handheld dynamic microphones and the rugged metal receiver. The new system is available now at Amazon and elsewhere for $179.99 shipped.
Stay locked to Toys as NAMM 2018 rolls on for all the most interesting product announcements in the world of music production.
