Sony unveils brand new Midnight Blue and Black Steel DualShock 4 controllers

$65

After debuting new retro-style translucent DualShock 4 controllers ahead of the Black Friday season last year, Sony is now ready to out its latest designs. We got a look at the amazing new controller for the New Monster Hunter World PS4 Pro bundle earlier this month, and now it’s time to look at the new Midnight Blue and Black Steel options.

As you likely have already seen on Electronicsforward at some point or other, Sony already has a large lineup of alternate DualShock 4 designs. Personally, I prefer the stock black variant just because of the way it shows in the living room, but it’s hard to deny how awesome the gold, silver and camo options are.

While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the retro translucent DS4’s from September, these latest options are likely going to be more universally appealing.

The Midnight Blue DualShock 4 controller is covered in a matte blue finish with all the usual fixings. The backside features a darker blue to create that usual Sony two-tone look. One interesting touch here is the small arrows surrounding the D-Pad. The lighter blue adds for a bit of artistic appeal on the otherwise simple design.

We are expecting the Steel Black to be a more popular color. It is really more like a dark silver and is, for the most part, the very first time we have seen a colorway like this on a DualShock 4. It is very much like the gunmetal grey color found in that Batman: Arkham Knight bundle from a few years back. It looks to have a little bit of a darker silver color to it overall, but with the same black finish on the backside.

Sony said both of the new Midnight Blue and Black Steel DualShock 4 controllers will be hitting store shelves sometime in the next “few weeks” for $64.99. That’s the standard price for a newly released DS4, despite older colors being available for much less these days.

Amazon listings are up for both of the new colors, but pre-orders aren’t just yet. We expect the listings to go live any minute now.
