Amazon’s kid-friendly FreeTime service is on sale, here’s why you should try it

For a limited time only, Amazon is offering a three-month trial subscription to its FreeTime Unlimited service for $3.99. The service has over 13,000 kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, educational apps games, with more new content continually being added. It also includes books and videos from recognizable brands like Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS Kids, Sesame Street and a ton of others. Amazon definitely has the content here, but there’s another big reason parents are signing their kids up for it…

You might be wondering why anyone would get kids a paid subscription for their devices when most of them already seem to have access to enough games and videos already. Also, does your kid really need another reason to spend more time on their devices? Well there’s a little secret behind this unlimited service from Amazon. It has actually been designed as a tool for parents to monitor and set limits on their child’s screen time.

At any given moment, parents can check on what their children have been watching or playing on their devices. That’s right, there’s a bunch of parental controls and even a dashboard for mom and dad to keep track of their kids’ activities all in one centralized place.

Amazon FreeTime is Amazon’s best-in-class parental control suite available for Fire tablets, Kindle eReaders, Fire TV, and Android phones and tablets.

With FreeTime, parents can set time limits so there isn’t too much screen time during the day. Also, parents can even select the specific apps, games, videos, and books they want to add to their child’s device.

Kids will also get the feeling they have some level of control with this system. Instead of just browsing the internet and running into dead ends or even age inappropriate content, kids can browse the FreeTime library to pick and choose what they want to watch, read or play.

Parents can also use FreeTime dashboard to set daily educational goals that have to be met before access to the entertainment content is unlocked. So it makes sure your child is using their device for learning as well as fun.

However, there’s one major drawback. There is no word of an iOS app anytime soon. So, for now the service can only be accessed with a Kindle or Android tablet. However, the FreeTime app for Android is free to use, and you can also use it on Fire tablets, Kindle e-readers and Fire TV.
