After first detailing its impending return late last year, Nintendo has made good on its promise to bring back the much sought-after NES Classic Edition console. In a tweet shared tonight, the company announced that will be offering availability starting June 29th. It is expected to be available “through the end of the year.” More details below…
When Nintendo first announced the NES Classic in the summer of 2016, it was clear from the outset that demand would be through the roof. Turns out, that was underselling it. Inventory repeatedly sold out instantly throughout the holiday season. Nintendo stopped production of the system in April 2017 but revealed last September that it would be making a return tour this year.
Nintendo will be offering the NES Classic for the same $59.99 price tag with the games list standing pat as well, including all of our favorites like Super Mario Bros., Pac-Man and others. There’s no word at this time if Nintendo will be extending those pesky controller cables, or including a second handheld unit for that matter. But we’re not holding our breath.
While NES Classic struggled to stay in-stock throughout its initial run, the SNES version has been somewhat easier to come by. Nintendo’s tweet leaves us to believe that stock may once again be limited, given its use of “expected availability throughout the year.”
We know that Best Buy and GameStop are slated to inventory in-stock on Friday, June 29th. You can expect Amazon to offer its own selection at the end of this week or in the near future.
As always, be sure to follow on Twitter as we’ll regularly be sharing when the console comes in-stock.
