Bethesda unveils the new mysterious Fallout 76 game w/ official teaser trailer

E3 2018 is fast approaching and we are now around two weeks away from the big announcements. But as expected, we are already starting to get some pre-show unveils and leaks. Rumors pointed at the new Pokémon: Let’s Go which has now been officially announced. Before that, Walmart Canada jumped the gun this year with a series of leaks likely forcing Bethesda to unveil Rage 2 a little earlier than it had planned. And now, after 24-hours of live streaming, Bethesda has now unveiled Fallout 76.

The Fallout series has been a favorite among gamers for many years. The last main entry in the series, Fallout 4, released on November 2015 as the fifth major installment. Its massive open-world took place in and around the city of Boston in the year 2287, about a decade after Fallout 3.

Fallout 76 however, might not follow in the timeline and it might not even be a full Fallout experience. At this point it sounds like it will be some kind of multiplayer game (battle royale anyone?). Both Kotaku and Polygon are reporting as such, but there really is no way to tell for sure until Bethesda takes the stage at E3.

We see a single character dawning a typical value vault dweller-style suit with the number 76 on the back. As far as we can tell, the 76 is referring to the vault the teaser trailer below takes place in. For the most part, we are seeing a pretty domestic environment inside of a vault that appears to be getting ready for a party of some kind (maybe it just finished?). A vault 76 appeared in Fallout 3 so we could be looking at a West Virginia setting here. Vault 76 appears as though it could be the vault designated to rebuilding civilization, as some reports suggest.

It takes many years to make a full Fallout game, and with the last canonical entry dropping in 2015, it still feel like it might be a little too early for a full-on new Fallout game. Most would have expected to hear about Elder Scrolls 6 before a new main-line Fallout title. Although that is not off the table yet either. Only time will tell now.

The press release doesn’t give us much more than that either. The game is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC but we’ll have to wait until Sunday, June 10th, at 6:30 p.m. PT for Bethesda’s BE3 showcase event for more.
