Wyze Camera is a great little security option for those on a budget. Recording 1080p, motion tracking, and night vision, the little camera is a great buy at $20. I have a few and love them, as they’re great for static shots.
One place where Wyze was lacking, however, was actual movement. The original Wyze camera (and V2) both were static cameras, meaning they aimed where you pointed. But, that all changes today with the Wyze Cam Pan.
With its wide-angle lens, the original camera was great for most shots. A single camera could capture my entire bedroom/office, but if I wanted to put a camera somewhere with a larger area than the field of view could cover, I would have had to use multiple devices.
The Wyze Cam Pan, launched today, is one of the most affordable full-motion cameras on the market today. With a price of $29.99 plus shipping (normally $5 with previous cameras), this camera is just a fraction of the cost some manufacturers charge.
The device features 360-degree rotation and 93-degree tilt range. This means that it can keep an eye out on just about every square inch of the floor it can possibly see. If placed in the center of a room (even hung by the ceiling via its built-in ¼-20 thread mounting hold on the bottom) the Wyze Cam Pan can literally view the entire room.
One mode is particularly useful here, called “Pan Scan.” This mode will rotate the camera to preset positions (customization of these positions is coming) and pause at each part for 10 seconds before moving onto the next. This, in conjunction with motion tracking, is the perfect security setup.
The camera will automatically rotate up to 360-degrees and then when motion is spotted, it will follow the motion until it ends. Once the motion ends, the camera returns to its normal rounds of monitoring.
With its built-in speaker and microphone, you’ll get two-way audio, as well. This means that you can talk with a loved one from across the country, or be able to hear (and talk to) an intruder in your home without even being there.
Wyze Cam Pan shares many features with Wyze Cam (and V2), however. Things like motion tagging which highlights motion with a green rectangle in both live and replayed views, motion detect zone, fantastic night vision, push notifications, and more are all included.
One thing that I really am happy with on the Wyze Cams is the “Smart Sound Recognition.” What this feature does is recognize whether a smoke alarm or CO alarm is sounding and can alert you to either if you’re not home. This could prove vital to saving loved ones or valuables and alerting the proper authorities in time.
Another awesome feature is the time lapse function. This means you can easily aim your Wyze Cam at a window and trigger time-lapse mode, capturing stunning views without expensive and specialized equipment.
Wyze Cam Pan is available for purchase starting today from the Wyze website for $29.99 + shipping. An Amazon launch is imminent but has yet to be made official yet.
We will be taking a more in-depth look at both the Wyze Cam V2 and Wyze Cam Pan soon, letting you know the benefits, downsides, and which is best for your specific application.
