Today Microsoft is unveiling the latest in its long lineup of Xbox One controllers. The company looks to be introducing a new series of controllers to the family with the Xbox Wireless Controller Sport White Special Edition. While it seems as though just every possible color combination has already been released in some way or other, Microsoft is taking the design touches up a notch here as opposed to just dropping a fresh coat of paint on the standard gamepad.
It looks like the new Sport Edition will be the first in the new series of gamepads for Xbox One. The look is inspired by “trends in athletics and sports lifestyle” but it reminds us a lot of the Combat Tech series gamepad in a different color, for the most part anyway.
The new Sport White features a very similar rubberized diamond grip, albeit on a more modern and sleek overall design. The mostly white body features futuristic pattern designs on the grips, light grey thumb-sticks, and a silvery D-pad. See through face buttons and minty accents round out the look. It sports the 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth so you can also use it with Windows 10 applications and Samsung Gear VR. The Xbox accessories app will allow you to create custom button maps and more.
While personally I tend to prefer the darker color schemes, if not just basic black, this one does look pretty nice as far as I’m concerned. The subtle touches of color on the front and in between the face buttons, along with the mint panel along the back just seem to show an extra bit of effort compared to your usual special editions.
Again, much like the Combat Tech, Controller Gear is providing an officially licensed Xbox Pro Charging Stand. The Sport White Special Edition Charger is designed to match the new controller perfectly and comes with a battery cover, rechargeable battery and 6-foot power cord.
The new Xbox Wireless Controller Sport White Special Edition will be available on July 31st at the Microsoft Store and authorized dealers for $69.99. It comes with a 14-day trial for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass, but not the matching charger. The Controller Gear Sport White Special Edition Charger will be available starting August 7th at $49.99.
