Wyze Cam picks up Alexa-compatibility in latest update, ask Echo to “show you the front door”

Wyze Cam has become a fan-favorite around here. With prices starting at $26 shipped from Amazon, local storage, free cloud storage, and the latest model featuring both pan and tilt functions, these are must-haves for anyone building a smart home on a budget.

One area that Wyze lacked in was smart assistant connectivity. Be it HomeKit, Assistant, or Amazon’s Alexa, there was no tie-in for Wyze at all. That is, until now. Announced today, Wyze Cams will now work flawlessly with Amazon’s Alexa service.

Whether you already own Wyze Cam or have been on the fence, these cameras are great. I’ve referred multiple people to them and everyone absolutely loves them. I personally own several and have them in different places around the house.

With Amazon just releasing its Show Mode Charging Dock for Fire HD tablets, Wyze Cam’s latest feature is even better. Alexa is already everywhere, from your TV to tablet and Echo Show or Spot.

Now with Wyze Cam, you’ll be able to just say “Alexa, show me the backyard” and poof! There it is. It’s a seamless experience that can be used in multiple locations.

Wyze Cam’s budget-friendly pricing makes it the perfect baby or front door monitor and is great for keeping an eye on the other side of the house without actually going over there. Now you can just ask Alexa to show you a camera and it’ll pop in without issue.

There is a slight buffering window, but that’s to be expected since everything is working wirelessly.

Buying an Echo Spot and Wyze Cam combo is cheaper than most other cameras which support smart assistants and is a great way to enter the smart home game without breaking the bank.

As of now, you can only view your Wyze Cam and cannot control it with your voice if you have the Wyze Cam Pan.

This skill is compatible with Echo Show, Echo Spot, and the Fire TV 4K. There should be no issues with the new Fire TV Cube (our review), but we don’t have confirmation yet. Sadly, there are some compatibility issues with the Fire Stick that is currently being worked on.

This skill is only available for owners of the Wyze Cam V2 and Wyze Cam Pan, the Wyze Cam v1 will not work with Alexa.

Though you cannot control your Wyze Cam Pan with this skill and can only view at this time, Wyze has told us that they are always working to add new features, though they cannot confirm if control will ever come or if it’s just a pipe dream at this point.

This is one of the most requested features of the Wyze Cam due to its great price point, and I can’t wait to see where Wyze goes from here. This company is brand-new and has been on the market for less than a year and has already released multiple cameras and has become a go-to name when referring people to budget-friendly camera options.

Wyze Cam’s skill for Alexa is available starting today at no cost, and the cameras start at just $25.98 shipped on Amazon. If you’ve been holding off on investing in a smart home camera system, now might be the perfect time to jump in.
