The Nintendo Switch is one of the company’s most iconic consoles in years. The last release that people were excited about in a similar fashion could arguably be the Wii, but I’d liken it back to the launch of the GameCube. The GameCube holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first “next-generation” consoles I ever owned. Before I had a PS2, Xbox, or anything else, I had a GameCube.
The controller was most iconic, especially for games like Super Smash Bros. which will be coming out soon on Switch. Nintendo knows this, as do many third-party manufacturers, which is why everyone is launching a GameCube controller for the Switch. PDP is the latest to announce a GameCube-style controller for Switch, and I can’t wait for the release.
Just yesterday, Hori, a well-known accessory manufacturer for Switch, announced its GameCube-style controllers. Now, just a day later, PDP, another well-known manufacturer, has released details on its Wired Smash Pad Pro.
The Wired Smash Pad Pro comes with a 10-Ft. USB cable that connects to your Switch for easy gameplay. PDP hopes that this 10-Ft. length will be plenty for gamers to get comfortable on their couch, but I’m personally hoping for a wireless option to eventually be released.
One of the coolest features of the new Smash Pad Pro is that you can customize the C-Stick to be traditionally-styled or a full-sized option, so you can play like regular a GameCube controller or a more modern-style offering.
The GameCube controller was one of my favorite layouts ever, to this day. Being able to use it on modern systems brings the joy of nostalgia to my heart that I’ve not had in a while. The Nintendo Switch is a great console for new-style games like DOOM and Skyrim, but the classic will always be where it’s at for games such as Super Smash Bros. or Mario Kart.
There are multiple colored styles for these Smash Pad Pro controllers, depending who your favorite Nintendo character is. You can choose from Link, Mario, or Pikachu. Each controller is styled in that character’s color and logo, giving you a great way of showing off your Nintendo fandom.
There is no official pricing or launch date, just a vague phrase that pre-orders will happen in the upcoming months and will be shipping in time for the holiday season. We can expect pricing to be somewhere around $30 if it follows other gamepads in its category.
