If you find yourself preferring mechanical keyboards and are a fan of the Resident Evil franchise, Capcom may have just the product for you. The company has announced an official Resident Evil 2 mechanical keyboard based on the game’s Lexington typewriter. In addition to its standout-design, the keyboard packs Bluetooth and works on both Windows and macOS.
While there is no shortage of games that end up having collectible gear made for them, Capcom’s new keyboard takes things a completely different direction by actually offering an item that is something you will be able to use each day.
The company’s mechanical keyboard offers a stunning design that is sure to garner attention. With its shiny metal keys and red-colored tab and delete keys, using this keyboard is sure to put a smile on any Resident Evil fan’s face, and probably most tech fans too.
Even though the keyboard is truly a work of art, it is worth mentioning that aside from the Lexington branding, it really looks nothing like the device it is supposed to resemble. This is because the keyboard is really not much more than Querkytoys’ Querkywriter S.
From the keyboard’s frame down to its colored-keys, these both keyboards look nearly identical. Before you begin to think that Capcom ripped off the design of the Querkywriter S, it should be clarified that both keyboards are actually manufactured by Querkytoys.
While both keyboards have high price-tags in common, the Capcom-branded version costs nearly three times as much. While the Querkywriter S can currently be had for $249 at Amazon, the Resident Evil version will set you back 75,000 yen which is about $675.
If you would have some money left in your wallet after pre-ordering, you may want to splurge and get the Premium Edition for ¥99,800 or $900. In addition to the keyboard, the Premium Edition comes with a collector’s edition of the Resident Evil 2 remake and four rolls of ‘Royal Ink Ribbon Masking Tape’.
Since you have likely written off the idea of buying this keyboard, let me reel you back in by sharing a couple of its neat features. The keyboard has a paper knob just like a typewriter that when turned, can adjust the volume or scroll up or down. It also has a tablet stand that can help provide users with the illusion that they are typing on a piece of paper.
Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 keyboard is able to be reserved starting today with its anticipated ship date being about four months from now on January 25, 2019.
