Since AirPods’ debut nearly two years ago, just about every headphone maker has been getting in on the truly wireless earbud action with their own cord-free solutions. The latest company to follow suit is Pioneer, who just recently debuted its first pair of the completely wireless headphones. Rocking the company’s signature audio-quality, Pioneer claims its C8 earbuds sound better than the competition. Head below for all the details.
Pioneer’s newest release takes the shape of two Bluetooth earbuds paired with a pretty plain-looking charging case. Compared to other models on the market, the C8 earbuds appear to be your standard run of the mill pair of truly wireless headphones. However you’ll have to rely on sound, not sight, for the C8 headphones to stand out.
The main way Pioneer is hoping to differentiate its new earbuds is by incorporating the same high-quality sound the rest of its audio gear is known for. The C8 headphones are said to sport “excellent sound with deep bass from powerful drivers.” Truly wireless earbuds aren’t typically known for sounding the best. So if Pioneer has managed to improve that even slightly, then that’ll definitely be an eye-catching, or better yet, ear-catching achievement.
Other notable features include quick access to digital assistants like Siri and Google Assistant, the ability to have notifications read to you and touch controls baked right into the earbuds. You can expect to get around three hours of audio playback on a single charge with the C8s, and the charging case gives you an additional six hours or so.
The latest addition to Pioneer’s lineup of Bluetooth headphones enter with a $120 price tag. Compared to other models of truly wireless earbuds on the market like AirPods, these are a more affordable option for those wanting to ditch the wires.
Achieving that lower price point doesn’t come without tradeoffs, as Pioneer had to sacrifice on some functionality in order to achieve its budget-conscious price. You’ll get around an hour or two less of playback per charge and more notably, you’ll be giving up Apple’s W1 wireless pairing in favor of standard Bluetooth.
But the end of the day, the C8 earbuds are said rock high-quality sound and at their price, still carry notable features. If saving roughly $30 compared to picking up AirPods is worth the tradeoffs, then take a look at Pioneer’s C8 earbuds. As of now they’re currently available for purchase from both Amazon and B&H for $119.99 shipped.
