Razer has become a household name when it comes to PC gaming. From keyboards and mice to gaming laptops, phones, and eGPUs, I thought Razer was in just about every category it wanted to be in. But,recently it announced that it was entering the Wi-Fi game with the Razor Sila wireless router.
You’ll get a slim build on Sila, and this router prioritizes applications so your online game is never interrupted. There are multiple new technologies used here, and some are proprietary engines build by Razer itself. The Razor Sila Wireless Router is designed to give you reliable and high-performance networking for gaming, but what all does it do that normal routers don’t provide? Keep reading to find out more.
Razor Sila Specs, Software, and Ports:
Razer’s Sila Wi-Fi router supports tri-Band 802.11ac 3000Mb/s and features 9 internal antennas. You’ll find a Gigabit WAN port, 3 Gigabit LAN ports, a USB 2.0 and 3.0 port on the back.
Razer built its own quality-of-service software dubbed FasTrack. This is an engine that prioritizes bandwidth when too many devices or applications are in use. This will let Sila choose what devices get higher bandwidth, and what ones will be limited. There’s also a “gaming mode” which will prioritize specific hardware. You can even choose what console itself is prioritized, be it PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or more.
The Razer Sila features “Multi-Channel ZeroWait DFS” technology. Now, that’s a lot of words that might not mean anything to you, but in short this means that Sila actively scans and switches its channels so you can avoid the congested ones many of your neighbors use. Channels in Wi-Fi are subsections of the frequency (2.4/5GHz). If you use a crowded channel, though your Wi-Fi will still work, you won’t get optimal speeds.
This ZeroWait DFS uses “radar-sensing hardware” to grant you exclusive access to frequencies that are normally restricted, so you can have better Wi-Fi throughput and less congestion on your network.
Razor Sila sports built-in mesh networking:
If you need more than 3,000 Sq. Ft. of Wi-Fi coverage, you can just add another Sila to your network and they automatically will turn into a hybrid wireless mesh system. This means that by adding two extra units (three total) you can cover up to 9,000 Sq. Ft. with consistent Wi-Fi signal. There’s also a dedicated backhaul channel so other bands are open so you can have maximum speed on your wireless devices.
App-controlled features:
Sila is controlled via an app on your iPhone or Android device. This lets you configure the security and parental controls, or set up a guest network for when friends come over. Gone are the days of navigating to 192.168.0.1 to configure your router, and here to stay is easy-to-use applications that make setting up your network a breeze.
Razor Sila pricing and availability:
The Razer Sila router has a retail price of $249.99 shipped. Purchases opened today and Sila quickly sold out, but you can keep your eyes peeled on Razer’s website for when it comes back in stock.
