Razer unveils Raiju Mobile gaming controller w/ 23-hour battery life & Hair Trigger Mode

With blockbuster releases like Fortnite hitting the App Store and Google Play, mobile gaming is bigger than ever. Sometimes it is hard to believe that we live in a world where the powerful smartphones in our pockets are capable of providing the level of immersive experiences that just a decade ago was only possible by large, dedicated pieces of hardware. With Razer Phone 2 pre-orders kicking off at 12:01AM PST morning, it is clear that we can expect the future of gaming on mobile to only get better from here. If that is not enough, Razer announced yesterday that it is releasing its own mobile gaming controller, called Raiju Mobile, that is made to work with flagship Android phones.

Razer’s Raiju Mobile controller sports a built-in mount and pairs with smartphones over Bluetooth or USB-C. The mount on the controller is not only adjustable to fit differently-sized phones, it can also be customized to tilt up to 60 degrees, a perk that will make mobile gaming a more comfortable experience.

The controller packs lots of features that make it clear that Razer has gone to great lengths to make sure that Raiju is among the best mobile gaming controllers on the market. A button along the back toggles “Hair Trigger Mode,” an experience that activates mechanical stop-switches that “greatly reduce[s] travel.” This is touted as most useful when “fractions of a second can be the difference between victory and defeat.”

“The Razer Raiju Mobile and Hammerhead USB-C ANC further deliver on our vision of providing the ultimate mobile entertainment experience” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “You no longer need to be at home to experience movies, music and gaming, in all its glory.”

If you are wondering which are the biggest games supported by this controller, Razer calls out Vainglory, Lineage 2, Dead Trigger 2, and Gear-Club. Thanks to 23-hour battery life, the controller may provide enough juice to get through one of those games and let you start another before needing to recharge. Even if that is not the case, most modern Android phones have USB-C making the charging experience pretty straight-forward.

At a price of $149.99, the Razer Raiju Mobile controller is an option that many will balk at, especially when considering the high number of low-cost Android controllers currently available. Another reason to be shocked is that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 controllers typically sell for around $50 each.

That being said, you get what you pay for. If you take mobile gaming seriously, there is good chance that Razer’s new controller will be one of the best Android controllers and likely worth a fair amount more. The company plans to release Raiju Mobile during Q4 of this year.
