8Bitdo’s latest adds Bluetooth controller support to your PlayStation Classic, pre-order now

Pre-order!

Earlier in the year, we got a first look at the Playstation Classic. And now that the miniature console is out and making some first impressions, Sony’s nostalgia-driven gaming device could use some improvements. Accessory maker 8Bitdo is no stranger to augmenting the features of the Classic consoles that have been popping recently. Today the company has unveiled its latest add-on, the USB Wireless Adapter for PS Classic. Head below for a closer look and when you’ll be able to bring one home for yourself.

Almost like clockwork, every time there’s been a notable new release from Nintendo, Sony, and the like, 8Bitdo has jumped in to offer alternative controller options, accessories, and more. And of course, Sony’s new miniature console is no exception. Today’s release is very similar to products that we’ve seen in the past from 8Bitdo. Back in June, the company unveiled a wireless controller for the NES Classic. But it goes much further than just adding wireless play.

8Bitdo’s latest is a tiny USB plug-and-play dongle that imbues your PlayStation Classic with Bluetooth capabilities. Much like its dongle for the Nintendo Switch, it opens the door to pairing the retro release with just about any modern controller on the market. Meaning you can use your PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4, the Switch’s Pro Controller, Joy-Cons and more.

8Bitdo’s new Bluetooth Adapter for PlayStation Classic is currently available for pre-order at Amazon for $19.99. It’ll be shipping by the end of the year, with a projected launch date of December 31st. If you’re loving the nostalgia offered by the PlayStation Classic but miss more modern comforts, this is a must.

Being able to kick-back on the couch without being tethered to the console by controller cables will certainly be worth it many. We previously lamented about the lack of vibration support in the PS Classic’s own controllers. Though there’s not word on if swapping them out for a DualShock 4 will bring the haptic feedback into the mix or not.

And at $20, it’s a pretty affordable option. Compared to 8Bitdo just releasing a tailor-made for the PS Classic, the Bluetooth Adapter’s BYOC – bring your own controller – approach is a refreshing one. Some may say it takes the fun out of enjoying the classic games. But if you’re looking to dominate titles like MGS, Tekken 3, and Final Fantasy VII, it may just give you the added edge. And sure sitting hunched over in front of a CRT TV was a blast back in 1994, but that’s one part of the retro experience that I’d like to leave in the past.
