Leica camera fans now have a new model to add to their collections, except it isn’t the typical release you’d expect from the company. Leica Store Miami is now selling LEGO versions of its M Rangefinder Camera. Available in two different designs, these miniature creations are the most affordable ways to score a Leica camera. Head below to see how you can get your hands on one of these brick-built cameras.

Compared to its previous new release, the M10-P, the LEGO Leica M camera comes in at just a minuscule fraction of the price. Sure you could spend nearly $6,000 on one of the most high-end DSLRs on the market. But if you don’t have that kind of cash sitting around, Leica’s brick-build replica is the next best thing.

The LEGO Leica M Camera stacks up to 124 pieces. When fully assembled, the miniature camera can fit right in the palm of your hands, as it measures up to 3 x 2 x 1.25 inches. That makes it the perfect size to adorn your desk or place on shelf for admiration. Unlike the camera it’s based on, the LEGO Leica M is purely for display purposes.

So while these kits made of LEGO bricks, they aren’t directly from LEGO. Leica is using a design from famed LEGO builder Chris McVeigh to produce these brick-built camera creations. McVeigh originally debuted the build back in 2013, with a revised version dropping two years later. And that’s what Leica is opting to use for its most inexpensive camera yet. While the kit does include all of the pieces, you’ll need to assemble it, including two custom-printed dial elements. It actually lacks any included instructions. Leica simply directs customers over to Chris’s website.

At $45, the LEGO Leica M Camera is a fantastic collectible. It comes in two different colorways, with the grey camera being accented by either black or brown bricks. Both models are now available for pre-order. While they show out of stock, you can still lock in your order now. Given that these aren’t officially from LEGO, the turnaround time on new batches of sets is a bit slow. Leica Store Miami hasn’t said when they’ll be shipping, though it’ll most likely be in early January of next year.

If you don’t want to wait, you can actually side-step Leica and build your own version. With the parts list and instructions available online, it’s as easy as heading over to LEGO’s Pick-a-Brick site, finding the pieces you need, and ordering them. One downside here is that you won’t receive the two custom-printed parts, although a perk is that pricing should be significantly lower than buying right from Leica.
