Whirlpool is unveiling a series of new intelligent gear for your home at CES 2019. The new Whirlpool smart countertop oven is filled with interesting tech advancements to make your life easier but it’s certainly going to cost you. Head below for all the details about Whirlpool’s CES 2019 lineup.
Whirlpool might not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking about technology gear. But the company has clearly been placing a lot of emphasis on intelligent feature sets for its home appliances over the last few years and 2019 is no exception.
Whirlpool Smart Countertop Oven
The camera-equipped Whirlpool smart countertop oven is capable of identifying the foods you’re trying to cook in order to set up the perfect conditions to do so. The obligatory companion app will allow you to access the internal camera to keep an eye on things, but you’re also looking at full status notifications on your phone/tablet and a built-in smart thermometer. It sounds as though it can even use a type of scan-to-cook like technology that will allow it to read cooking data from select frozen foods for an even more automated and hands-off cooking experience.
With full Alexa and Google Assistant technology, you’ll also just be able to yell at the thing to change the temperature, timer settings and more. A new version of Whirlpool’s instructional Yummly cooking app is making an appearance at CES as well. The Pro version will likely cost you when it hits, but the new Whirlpool smart countertop oven will have access to it in some way or other.
Scheduled to go up for pre-order in limited quantities soon, the Whirlpool smart countertop oven is carrying a suggested retail price of $799. That, by no measure, could be considered affordable, so you’ll have to choose if it’s worth the extra cash over something like the June or Breville’s not-so-intelligent options at hundreds of dollars less.
Home Hub Smart Oven Concept and more:
Whirlpool also showed off a new KichenAid Smart Oven+ with Google Assistant built-in and an equally intelligent washer and dryer combo. Both are set to debut sometime in 2019, but we also got a quick look at Whirlpool’s Smart Oven concept as well:
It carries a 27-inch transparent LCD display-meets-interface in place of the usual oven door. Not only is the screen used for family calendars and things of that nature, but also an interactive display that will provide contextual cooking instructions for the meal you’re trying to prepare. It will also provide suggestions for meals that lineup with your busy family schedule and an interesting “internal vision system” that allows chefs to zoom in on actual areas of the food cooking to get a closer look.
